What are E-Precepts?

The precept is thought by some to be a defining component of a Princeton education. The small group discussion groups allow for students to engage actively in their learning processes. E-Precepts have the same aims, but are online, video-based discussion groups of no more than ten participants each, led by Princeton students. The electronic medium encourages participants to come together from around the world and the synchronous nature of the discussion allows for immediate interaction.

Who can participate in the E-Precepts?

We hope that a cross-section of the Princeton community — undergraduate alumni, graduate alumni, parents of students, friends and family — will participate. The variety of times scheduled should allow individuals from all time zones to join a session. To keep the conversation manageable, each session is limited to only ten participants. We request that each participant joins only one session.

When will the sessions be held?

We are offering eight E-Precept sessions, each of which will run approximately 60 to 90 minutes. We request that each participant joins only one session.

What do I need in order to participate?

The E-Precepts will be conducted over an online interactive conferencing platform. In order to view the preceptor and fellow students, you must have internet access. To actively contribute by video, your device must include a camera (webcam) and microphone. (Audio-only participants may call in by telephone to a two-way audio line; charges may apply.) We suggest, when using a webcam and/or voice-over-IP audio, that you use a hard-wired device such as a desktop computer. While wi-fi enabled devices should work, we have seen connectivity issues and slow performance from these.

There is no cost for joining an E-Precept, however advance registration is required.

How do I register?

Registration was closed at the conclusion of the program.
