Tropical Passage: Panama and Costa Rica
This trip has been completed.
March 4-14, 2008. A daytime transit of the Panama Canal is a special feature of this program. A three-night post-cruise extension in Panama will be offered.
Join your fellow Princetonians March 4-14, 2008, on this tropical adventure that combines one of the world’s most treasured natural environments with one of mankind's most illustrious achievements: the exceptional natural diversity of Costa Rica and Panama, and Panama's great Canal, which we experience during a pre-arranged daylight transit.
After three full days of exploring the highlights of Costa Rica, spend six nights aboard the luxurious Le Levant, with ample deck space for relaxing amidst tropical breezes, a world-class zodiac operation and convenient swimming platform. Swim and snorkel both in the warm, emerald waters of the Caribbean and off the craggy headlands of the Pacific. Explore far-flung islands, observe tropical wildlife amid ambient cloud forests, and meet local people safeguarding the ecological and commercial treasures of the region.
About the Study Leader
The academic component of this program will be led by Gilbert Joseph, the Farnam Professor of History and International Studies at Yale, and Patricia Pessar, a professor of American Studies and Anthropology at Yale. This husband-wife team will give presentations on U.S.-Latin American relations and ethnicity, race, and migration in the Americas. Guest speakers from Costa Rica's National Biodiversity Institute, Costa Rica's National Parks service, and Panama's remarkable Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, will touch upon topics ranging from conservationism to biodiversity.
Please note: We will be sharing this journey with travelers from the Association of Yale Alumni.
