Bermuda Marine Biology Seminar

This trip has been postponed.

June 26 – July 1, 2008 with James L. Gould, Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Take a shortened version of a Princeton undergraduate seminar.

Princeton's Environmental Studies Program, in partnership with the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and the Department of Geosciences, offers summer courses in marine biology at the Bermuda Institute for Oceanic Studies. Taught by perennial alumni favorite Jim Gould, the course for undergraduates lasts four weeks. Join your fellow Princetonians on a distilled version of the seminar, June 26 – July 1, 2008, to examine coral reefs, understand marine biodiversity, and feel like a Princeton student all over again.

Opportunities to snorkel will not only be for pleasure's sake, but will also serve an educational purpose as the water becomes our classroom for the week. Gathering samples, observing wildlife, and exploring beautiful Bermuda are all part of this seminar's syllabus.

The Princeton Journeys program will overlap with the last week of the Environmental Studies course, so participants will have the chance to interact with Princeton undergraduates and even attend their course-capping final presentations.

About the Study Leader
Jim Gould, Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, will serve as study leader for this program.

A member of the Princeton faculty since 1975, Jim's work concentrates on behavior and physiology. An expert in animal behavior, communication, and navigation, as well as behavioral ecology, Jim will modify the course that he leads for undergraduates and will test our skills in observation and deduction. His wife, Carol Grant Gould, also a naturalist and science writer, will also be on hand to give a historical perspective to the area and experiences that we have.
