Embark on a journey of discovery, from the dawn of western art through Portugal's golden age of exploration, from the heroism of the D-Day landings to the modern era of art and architecture.
Join fellow Princetonians, May 8-21, 2009 aboard the all-suite Island Sky and cruise from Lisbon, Portugal to Portsmouth, England, along a coastline that traces thousands of years of human achievement. Marvel at the prehistoric cave paintings in France's Dordogne region, experience the grandeur of the great pilgrimage cathedrals at Mont St-Michel and Santiago de Compostela, and take in the contemporary artistry of Frank Gehry's Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Along the way, enjoy private tastings and meals ashore, featuring superb local food and wines.
Princeton faculty favorite Will Howarth will present evening precepts based on historical and creative writings linked to the areas visited on the Journey. These lively interactive discussions will be complemented by lecture presentations by experts on art, maritime history, and early civilizations of the region. Please note: Princeton travelers will be joined by those from our cosponsoring organizations of Stanford University and the American Museum of Natural History.
