World Cup in South Africa
June 9-16, 2010. Stay in Johannesburg and take in the excitement of first-round World Cup action.
Soccer/football is renowned for breeding a religious sense of team pride and loyalty throughout much of the world, particularly among Princetonians with their strong tradition of success in both men's and women's athletics. With Bob Bradley '80 the current manager of the U.S. men's national soccer team, Princetonians have an extra reason to be interested in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Anticipated highlights of a Princeton Journeys program to South Africa include:
- Reserved tickets at two or three official FIFA World Cup matches (first round)
- Attendance at a U.S. team practice session (pending approval by Coach Bradley)
- Lectures and discussions on the social and political impact of sport, particularly soccer
- Opportunities to view other matches, televised in local spectator venues
- Sightseeing in Johannesburg, Pretoria, and environs
Other included items: Hotel accommodations; selected group meals; transportation to/from event venues and group excursions; no-hassle trip planning, including recommended flight itineraries, packing lists, and health information; basic medical and evacuation insurance; on-site tour management and assistance. Estimated price for program: $5,990 per person, double occupancy.
Because of the timing of qualifying tournaments, the FIFA bracketing and, thus, venue assignments for the games, details on the tour package will not be available until late 2009. In order to secure space for a Princeton group, however, Princeton Journeys will require early commitments from participants. For more information, or to provide feedback, please contact Leslie Rowley at Princeton Journeys, (609) 258-8686 or journeys@princeton.edu.
