June 30–July 14, 2007 with Therese Lee *06. Make great family memories while experiencing China through the eyes of a younger traveler.

In the next few generations, the impact of China on the global stage will become more and more evident. Introduce the children in your life to the riches of historic and modern China on this family Journey with other Princetonians June 30–July 14, 2007. With activities, meals, and pacing planned with families in mind, this program features the best of eastern China and something for travelers of every age.

The program begins in the bustling city of Beijing, where the group explores Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, and the Summer Palace and other sites. Young travelers have a chance to meet their Chinese pen pals. From Beijing, travelers also have the opportunity to explore a relatively uncrowded section of the Great Wall of China.Travel on to Xi'an for two nights to see the famous Terra Cotta Army Outside of Chendu, visit the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base. Then board the M.V. Katrina for a three-night cruise along the Yangzi River. The trip culminates with two nights in Shanghai.

This trip has been developed specifically for a family—youngsters with parents, grandparents, or other adult friends or relatives—who wants to experience China together. Some activities, such as hands-on learning experiences, scavenger hunts, or special meals may be designated "for children only." However, most activities and meals are designed so that families may share the time and experiences together. Parents are always responsible for their children.

Thomson Family Adventures, our operator for this program, builds a host of fun activities into this adventure to make sure young travelers are not just learning new things, but they are also having a great time. The selected accommodations in China are clean, comfortable, welcoming, and child-friendly. At mealtime, menus are chosen to be healthy, delicious, and varied—even for the fussiest eaters. Opportunities to try local cuisine (even making your own dumplings!) are mixed with Western meals, including a pizza party sharing with the Chinese pen pals.

Princeton Journeys staff suggests this program for travelers ten and older.
