Jordan: Petra and the Dead Sea
September 10-21, 2010. Take the time to uncover the famous and hidden wonders of Jordan: from the man-made spectacles at Petra and Jerash to the natural marvels at Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea.
From times Biblical to Byzantine, Roman to recent, the land of Jordan has offered visitors a dazzling diversity of sights. Join your fellow Princetonians, September 10-21, 2010 in an encounter with wonders of both nature and man.
With a small group of no more than 24 travelers, visit lively Amman and then explore the ruins of Jerash, dubbed the "Pompeii of the East" for its splendid state of preservation. Continue on to the important pilgrimage site of Mt. Nebo, where Moses was said to be buried overlooking the Jordan Valley. Next, spend two full days exploring the "Lost City" of Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where even seasoned travelers stand in awe of this jaw-dropping expanse of rose-red temples, tombs, and civic buildings carved into the sheer rock face of the Sharah Mountains.
"Off-road" through the spectacular desert landscape of Wadi Rum, admiring the pink and white sands, ancient valleys, and towering sandstone monoliths. Snorkel in the Red Sea before concluding the program at the Dead Sea and the area believed to be the site of five biblical cities, including Sodom and Gomorrah.
