Day of the Dead Festivities in Mexico
October 28 – November 3, 2010. Celebrate Dia De Los Muertos in traditional Oaxacan style in the company of local hosts from the arts, culinary, and social worlds of contemporary Mexico.
Although the Day of the Dead is celebrated in many parts of Latin America, nowhere is it more charged with cultural symbolism or more vibrant than in the UNESCO World heritage city of Oaxaca, Mexico. There is a palpable buzz in the air as families visit markets, prepare homemade mole, hot chocolate and pan de muertos for their friends and family, both living and departed. Join your fellow Princetonians, October 28 – November 3, 2010, on this highly personal journey and fully participate in this most festive of traditions, all from a distinctly local perspective.
Meet two of Oaxaca's internationally recognized artists at their homes, enjoying private demonstrations of their work and a home-hosted meal. Celebrate with neighbors and friends for a traditional Day of the Dead fiesta after learning about the festival's meanings and building your own altar. Prepare seasonal dishes and learn about the cultural significance of festival foods during a hands-on culinary workshop with Oaxaca's top contemporary chef. Take in the stunning natural beauty and archaeological and architectural treasures of Oaxaca in the company of painters, chefs, sculptors, archaeologists and more.
Please note: Space on this very personal journey will be limited. Please contact Princeton Journeys with your interest as soon as you are able.
