TigerNet Tips

Tips for enhancing your experience on TigerNet.

Discussion Group Tips

  • You can change your preferences for delivery of posts, as well as the e-mail address at which you wish to receive delivery. From your My TigerNet Page, you can click on any one of your discussion groups. Then click “View my subscription settings.” Discussion group delivery mechanisms include:

    • Web access only: All message postings are accessed via the Discussion Groups Home page and read online.

    • Individual e-mail posts: E-mails are sent to your discussion group e-mail address every time a post is made to the discussion group(s) to which you are subscribed.

    • Daily plain text digest: A daily plain text digest that displays message postings (titles and complete text) one after the other in one large text message for each discussion group to which you are subscribed.

    • Daily summary digest: A daily digest for each discussion group to which you are subscribed that only displays message posting titles with links to view the actual posts online.

    • Daily MIME digest: A daily MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) digest displays each posting as a separate attachment within the e-mail message for each discussion group to which you are subscribed. NOTE: Not all mail readers support MIME.

  • Discussion group e-mail delivery: To change the e-mail address for your delivery, in the “Settings” box, click on “Modify my default subscription settings.” Make sure all possible choices for e-mail delivery address are listed there. Then return to the “View my subscription settings,” and choose the preferred e-mail from the drop-down. The default settings will now be available as choices in each of your discussion group pages.

My TigerNet Profile Tips

  • Pick and choose what personal information to display in the directory: the "Alumni Directory View Preferences" panel allows you to hide details about your record you'd like to keep private. Access it through the My TigerNet Profile page.

  • Upload your resume via the My TigerNet Profile page, for networking opportunities and inclusion in the Resume Depot.

  • Turn up in more search results. Maximize your searchable information: upload your resume including keywords and include your work information to help people find you through Advanced and Global Searches.

Alumni Directory & TigerNet Global Search Tips

  • Expand your Search Horizons with Global Search: use the Global Search option to look beyond the Alumni Directory to check for people and topics in the Resume Depot and other tools in TigerNet.

  • Find Friends Fastest with the Alumni Directory Search: the basic Alumni Directory search allows you to find people based on the most basic information, like class year and name.

  • Not sure how to spell your friend's new last name? Use just the first few letters in the first or last name field to return the greatest number of results.

  • Too many records returned? When searching on a common last name, try using Global Search and selecting the Directory option only. The “roll-over” function in the Results Page will allow you to see contact details of each result without having to click on each name.

E-mail Services Tips

  • Set up Spam Control Options on your e-mail forwarding account.
