Akhil Reed Amar is the Sterling Professor of Law and Political Science at Yale University and one of the nation’s leading constitutional scholars. Widely cited by courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, Amar is the author of numerous influential books on constitutional history and interpretation, including “America’s Constitution,” “The Constitution Today” and “Born Equal: Remaking America’s Constitution, 1840-1920.” 

Founded in 1957 in memory of Walter E. Edge ’46, who served twice as governor of New Jersey and also as United States senator and ambassador to France, this lecture series is supported by a bequest from his estate assigned to the University by his family, and supplemented by additional gifts from them, as a means of bringing to Princeton eminent statesmen from abroad as well as leaders in American public life.  

The first 150 in-person attendees will receive copies of “Born Equal” or “The Words that Made Us.”
