Barbara Graziosi is the Ewing Professor of Greek Language and Literature and professor of classics at Princeton. Her research focuses on ancient Greek literature and its reception and spans Greek poetry, literary reception, material culture, and the intersection of Classics and technology. Graziosi leads Logion: Machine Learning for Greek Philology, which applies machine learning to textual criticism and the study of ancient texts. A prolific writer, she is the author of “Classics, Love, Revolution: The Legacies of Luigi Settembrini,” co-authored with Andrea Capra (Oxford University Press); “Homer: A Very Short Introduction” (Oxford University Press); “Inventing Homer: The Early Reception of Epic,” (Cambridge University Press); and “The Gods of Olympus: A History” (Metropolitan Books/Holt). A frequent public commentator and broadcaster, Graziosi has written for general audiences and international media. Educated in Trieste, Oxford and Cambridge, she joined Princeton in 2018. In 2026, the Humanities Council named Graziosi as Behrman Professor in the Humanities, a three-year appointment during which she co-leads the yearlong Humanities Sequence “Interdisciplinary Approaches to Western Culture,” co-teaches a capstone seminar in the program and helps to build community among students pursuing the minor in humanistic studies.
