Costa Rica and the Panama Canal

About the Study Leader

The academic portion of this journey will be led by an expert team of National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions naturalists.

About the Journey

Join Princeton Journeys and witness one of history’s greatest engineering triumphs, the Panama Canal. Aboard the National Geographic Quest, you’ll have the opportunity to transit the canal’s locks over two days, benefitting from a team of experts who will illuminate every nuance of the crossing.

Beyond the steel and stone of the canal, discover the vibrant, biologically rich worlds of Costa Rica and Panama: snorkel colorful coral reefs, kayak and zodiac along wild shorelines, and trek into lush rainforests filled with monkeys, sloths, and colorful birdlife. Highlights of the adventure include an exclusive stop at the Smithsonian Research Institute, the wild rainforests surrounding Corcovado National Park, UNESCO-designated Coiba National Park, and the chance to interact with local families living in remote communities.

Accommodation

National Geographic Quest
Built in 2017, National Geographic Quest is ideal for the fast-moving channels and shallow coves of Pan-American waters. Her design and engineering were informed by nearly 40 years of experience in the narrow straits of Alaska, the coast of Costa Rica and into the gray whale nursery lagoons of Baja. Modern and clean-lined, with large expanses of glass to take in the extraordinary views, National Geographic Quest enables guests to see, do and experience the best of her geographies.

Public spaces include a main dining area; global gallery; fitness center; lounge with full-service bar and state-of-the-art presentation facilities; observation deck; mudroom with lockers for expedition gear; partially-covered furnished sundeck; plus open access to the Bridge. Meals are served in the dining room at a single seating with unassigned tables for an informal atmosphere and easy mingling. Menus feature sustainable choices, local where possible.
