About the Journey

Delight in an art lover’s paradise: a custom-designed, Princeton-exclusive journey tracing the life and artistic evolution of Vincent Van Gogh.

Begin in Amsterdam with the Van Gogh Museum, showcasing the world’s largest collection of his work. Explore the Rijksmuseum and enjoy a private dinner cruise through the city’s UNESCO-listed canal ring.

Travel next to Eindhoven, home to the Genneper Watermolen painted by Van Gogh in 1884, along with several sites associated with his life and work. Take a curator-led tour of the world-class Kröller-Müller Museum, housing a formidable Van Gogh collection and set in the beautiful De Hoge Veluwe Park, and visit Den Bosch, Van Gogh’s birthplace. Explore Nuenen, where Van Gogh painted a quarter of his life’s work, and as the sun goes down relish in one of the most unique Van Gogh experiences in the world, a 600-meter bike path embedded with thousands of glow-in-the-dark stones that light up in swirling patterns inspired by “The Starry Night.”

Continue the journey to Antwerp and Brussels, Belgium, exploring the work of the Flemish masters and 19th-century realists who inspired Van Gogh. Admire Rubens‘ spectacular altarpieces at the Cathedral of Our Lady, which Van Gogh made several visits to see, and discover the amazing collection of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp. In Brussels, enjoy a walking tour of the Royal Quarter focused on Van Gogh’s short-lived but important time in the city, and visit the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium.

Throughout the journey, acclaimed art historian Debora Silverman will guide participants through the world of Vincent van Gogh, providing rich insight into the artistic innovations, intellectual influences, and historical contexts that gave rise to one of the most transformative figures in modern art.
