Since the founding of Princeton Journeys 21 years ago, lifelong learning has been its north star. On every Princeton Journeys travel program, educational opportunities unfold in a myriad of ways — traditional and experiential, planned and serendipitous. The traditional component features formal lectures presented by faculty members and distinguished alumni who serve as our program’s study leaders. Experiential elements invite travelers to become active learners rather than passive tourists, engaging in thoughtfully designed excursions, meaningful encounters with local communities and behind-the-scenes access to some of the world’s leading institutions.
This past year, Princeton Journeys travelers visited homes, schools and artists’ workshops; they met with ambassadors, journalists and authors. In Belfast, they explored the complex history of The Troubles on a dual-narrative peace-building tour, while in Argentina, they learned to dance the tango and cheered for the River Plate fútbol club at a high-energy soccer match. It is these unique shared experiences that create the magic of Princeton Journeys.
Lifelong learning for Tigers neither begins nor ends with Princeton Journeys. Housed under the umbrella of Alumni Education and Travel, the program is just one of several educational initiatives available to the Princeton community.
TigerSide Chats, a virtual series featuring faculty and administrators in conversation with alumni moderators, was launched last year. We welcomed nearly 3,000 participants to the inaugural Zoom-webinar series, exploring topics ranging from the colorful world of birds and a history of science funding to AI “snake oil” and a preview of the new Princeton University Art Museum.
