A new professorship of India studies, endowed by a Venture Forward gift from Sumir Chadha ’93, will provide Princeton students with a deeper understanding of India’s culture, history and international relations. Members of the Chadha family gathered at Prospect House on June 24 to celebrate the Surinder Mohan Singh Chadha and Bharati Chadha Professorship in India Studies, named in honor of Chadha‘s parents.

Chadha, a former University trustee with a vision for developing Princeton‘s global reach, previously made a major gift that established the M.S. Chadha Center for Global India, an interdisciplinary center focused on exploring contemporary India and addressing key interactions between India and the world that have transformational potential. The center, led by Anu Ramaswami, the Sanjay Swani ’87 Professor of India Studies, was dedicated in 2018 and named in honor of Chadha‘s grandfather, a distinguished physician who served as the director general of health services for India.
