With an Annual Giving Legacy Gift, Kubal ’70 Preps for Reunions 2020

Wayne Kubal '70

Standing in the newly dedicated Jadwin Hall to defend his physics senior thesis, “Streamer Chamber Search for Quarks,” Wayne Kubal ’70 waited for the questions professors would lob his way. Little did he know then that being able to react quickly under a stressful situation would serve him so well. But years later, as an emergency room neuroradiologist, that experience in Jadwin served proved vital.

The experience also taught him to be prepared — a skill Kubal is using to benefit his class’s 50th Reunion in 2020.

Kubal also contributed to the Class of 1970’s 50th Reunion Annual Giving campaign through the Annual Giving Legacy program. His deferred charitable giving annuity will support his class’s efforts and provide income to him for life after he retires.

“Like a lot of folks, you know your 50th is coming up and you look at your life and know you want to do something,” Kubal says. “Annual Giving Legacy was the simplest way to go. I got a mailing from (classmate) Jim Morris, and I said to myself ‘Why not — I’ll move up the plan to inspire others.’”

Princeton’s new Annual Giving Legacy Program enables alumni to obtain Annual Giving major reunion class credit for life income gifts at the requisite level while receiving tax benefits, starting with the 50th Reunion. After the donor and/or another beneficiary have passed on, the principal funds a perpetual Annual Giving endowment in the donor’s name.

Kubal set up his gift a year prior to his major — giving in advance allows donors to transfer assets when the time is right for them and apply their gift credit to the major reunion, whether it is one, two, or more years away.

Of course, an Annual Giving Legacy gift can be made during the major reunion year, too.
