The Princeton Brazil LAB and Amazônia 2030 will host the panel discussion, “Amazonian Deforestation and Climate Change: What Brazilian Scientists Are Seeing,” via livestream on the Brazil LAB YouTube channel. The panel features:

• Luciana Gatti, a researcher at the Brazilian National Institute of Space Research (INPE) and a professor of nuclear technology at the Nuclear and Energy Research Institute at the University of São Paulo. Her research is mainly concerned with climate change, with a focus on the role of the Amazon rainforest in the emission/absorption of greenhouse gases and the effect of climate variables on these processes.
• Tasso Azevedo, a Brazilian scientist, environmentalist and social entrepreneur working in the field of forests, sustainability and climate change. He coordinates the SEEG Network, a system to estimate greenhouse gas emissions and MapBiomas, a network of Brazilian scientific institutions, civil-society groups and startups that produces annual land-cover and land-use country maps. Azevedo is a Brazil LAB Affiliated Scholar.
• Stephen Pacala, Princeton’s Frederick D. Petrie Professor in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and director of the HMEI Carbon Mitigation Initiative, who focuses his research on developing and testing mathematical models that capture the processes that govern ecological communities and the interactions between the global biosphere and climate, including all aspects of the global carbon cycle.
