In celebration and recognition of the achievement of the Class of 2020, the University will hold an on-campus Commencement celebration on May 18, 2022 for the undergraduate Class of 2020 and their families, and graduate alumni who received a final master’s degree or Ph.D. in the 2019-20 academic year. The event is planned to take place on campus just prior to Reunions 2022, May 19-22.

Alumni Engagement is working closely with the undergraduate Class of 2020 leadership to plan the milestone event in partnership with the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students, the Office of the Vice President and Secretary, and other campus departments, and will send a survey to the class next week to help inform planning the celebration. The Graduate School will send a survey to graduate alumni.

“We are excited and grateful the University is now able to plan this celebratory event, ” said Ben Chang, deputy vice president for communications and University spokesperson. “We were all profoundly disappointed that we were unable to organize an event sooner given the public health restrictions put in place across New Jersey and the impact of the pandemic on our campus and our staff. With increasing rates of vaccinations and the lifting of social distancing requirements, the University feels confident they will be able to welcome back the undergraduate Class of 2020, grad alumni, and families for the Commencement celebration next spring.”

“The moment when the Class of 2020 commemorates both its Commencement and its first on-campus Reunions — is one that the entire University community looks forward to with great anticipation and celebration, as the campus and the country emerge from pandemic restrictions,” said Kevin Heaney, vice president for advancement. “We look forward to welcoming the class and graduate alumni back to campus for this important occasion and celebrating their lifelong connection to the University as members of the Princeton alumni body.”
