Speaker
Sarah Boll became Princeton’s executive director of sustainability in April 2024. She joined Princeton from Marriott International, where she served as the senior director of energy & sustainability. In that role, she helped set the company's science-based emissions reduction targets and developed Marriott’s comprehensive climate action program. Prior to her time at Marriott, Boll held significant roles in state government and academia. At the State of Utah’s Division of Facilities Construction and Management, Boll served as assistant director, building performance, leading a substantial update to the State’s High Performance Building Standards for new construction that resulted in substantial cost savings and efficiency improvements across various state agencies. At the University of Utah, where she served as energy manager/district manager, Boll managed one million square feet of research and academic space, led projects that doubled the amount of energy saved for every dollar spent, and completed a retro-commissioning project that paid back in just six months. She began her sustainability in the built environment career as a sustainability project manager at New York University, where she implemented building automation systems that curtailed energy use. She also managed the university’s waste and recycling programs. Boll's leadership experience extends to her service as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy, where she served as Liaison Officer for Military Pre-positioning Squadron and the Main Propulsion Assistant of the USS FIFE’s Gas Turbine Engineering Plant. An alumna of Tulane University, Boll holds a master's degree in environmental protection and management from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
